Collaborative Combat Aircraft
The Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) concept refers to the collaborative operation of manned and unmanned systems in military or aerospace contexts to enhance mission effectiveness. MUM-T enables human operators to control, coordinate, or supervise autonomous or semi-autonomous platforms to improve situational awareness, reduce risk, and optimize performance in complex environments. The Loyal Wingman is a type of unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) and is capable of collaborating with manned combat aircraft, including sixth-generation fighters and bombers. It is expected to survive on the battlefield and be significantly lower-cost than a crewed aircraft with similar capabilities. The US Air Force plans to spend over $8.9 billion on its Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) programs from fiscal years 2025 to 2029. CCAs are intended to operate in collaborative teams with manned combat aircraft and are expected to offer comparable capability to human pilots at a lower cost. They can perform various missions, including as a sensor, shooter, or cost reducer, and are designed to operate under the tactical control of human pilots.learn more on wikipedia
