Circus Maximus
The Circus Maximus was an ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium and mass entertainment venue in Rome, Italy, located in the valley between the Aventine and Palatine hills. It measured 621 meters in length and 118 meters in width, and could accommodate over 150,000 spectators, making it the largest stadium in ancient Rome and its later Empire. The Circus hosted various events, including public games (ludi) connected to Roman religious festivals, which ranged from one-day to multi-day celebrations featuring horse and chariot racing, athletics, plays and recitals, beast-hunts, and gladiator fights. The Circus remained the most suitable space in Rome for chariot racing and hosted many significant events, including the 135 days of ludi per year by the late 1st century AD.learn more on wikipedia
