Church of the Pater Noster

The Church of the Pater Noster is a Roman Catholic church located on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, part of a Carmelite monastery known as the Sanctuary of the Eleona. The modern church is built next to the ruins of a 4th-century Byzantine church commissioned by Constantine I, which was later destroyed by the Persians in 614. The site was associated with the teachings of Jesus, particularly the Lord's Prayer, and was rebuilt by the Crusaders in 1152, only to be abandoned and fall into ruin. The modern church was built in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the site being acquired by Princess Aurelia Bossi de la Tour d'Auvergne, who began a search for the cave mentioned by early pilgrims.
