Chongming Island

Chongming Island is an alluvial island located at the mouth of the Yangtze River in eastern China, covering 1,267 square kilometers as of 2010. It is part of Chongming District, the northernmost area of the Shanghai municipality, and has a population of 660,000. The island was formed from two separate shoals, Xisha and Dongsha, which developed during the Tang dynasty.
