Chimurenga

Chimurenga is a Shona word meaning "revolutionary struggle" or uprising, used to refer to several historical and modern conflicts in Zimbabwe, including the Ndebele and Shona insurrections against British South Africa Company rule in the late 19th century, the Rhodesian Bush War of the 1960s and 1970s, and the ongoing land reform programme of the Zimbabwe government since 2000. The term is derived from the name of a great ancestor of the Shona, Venda, and Kalanga people, Murenga Musorowenzou, who was revered for his strength and leadership.
