Chicago Marathon
The Chicago Marathon is a World Marathon Major and a World Athletics Label Road Race held annually in October in Chicago, Illinois. It was first run on September 25, 1977, with a field of 4,200 runners and has since grown to become the fourth-largest marathon by number of finishers worldwide. The race has been held every year except 1987, when only a half-marathon was run, and 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The course is considered fast and flat, allowing for personal records and world record performances. The race is limited to around 50,000 runners and has a lottery system for registration. The event has a significant charitable aspect, with local, national, and global charities and humanitarian organizations encouraging sponsored participation. The Chicago Marathon has a rich history, dating back to 1905, and has been influenced by the growth of marathon running in the public's eyes from the 1960s.learn more on wikipedia
