Catanduanes Island

The island province of Catanduanes is located in the Bicol Region of Luzon in the Philippines, with a population of 271,879 people as of the 2020 census. It is composed of the main island of Catanduanes, as well as several smaller islands and islets. The province has a rich geologic history and is home to various mollusk fossil sites, including the second-oldest ammonite site in the Philippines. Catanduanes was a sub-province of Ambos Camarines and Albay before becoming an autonomous province in 1945, with Congressman Francisco Perfecto filing the bill that separated it from Albay.
