Capital One Arena
Capital One Arena is an indoor arena in Washington, D.C. that was opened in 1997 as MCI Center, later renamed to Verizon Center in 2006 and then to its current name in 2017. The arena is owned and operated by Monumental Sports & Entertainment and serves as the home venue for the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, and Georgetown University men's basketball team. The arena has been the subject of controversy due to its contribution to gentrification in the surrounding area, displacement of local residents and businesses, and negative impact on the Asian-American community. The arena project was initially backed by the District government and private investors, but ultimately privately funded by the arena's owner, Abe Pollin.learn more on wikipedia
