Black Sea
The Black Sea is a marginal Mediterranean sea located between Europe and Asia, bounded by six countries: Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. It covers an area of 436,400 km2, has a maximum depth of 2,212 m, and a volume of 547,000 km3. The sea is supplied by major rivers, including the Danube, Dnieper, and Dniester, and has a positive water balance with an annual net outflow of 300 km3 per year through the Turkish Straits into the Aegean Sea. The Black Sea has a unique characteristic of having a permanent layer of deep water that is anoxic, which has led to the preservation of ancient shipwrecks.
