Battles of Lexington and Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were fought on April 19, 1775, in Massachusetts, marking the outbreak of armed conflict between the Kingdom of Great Britain and Patriot militias from America's Thirteen Colonies. Approximately 700 British Army regulars, under Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith, were sent to capture and destroy Colonial military supplies reportedly stored in Concord, but were met with effective resistance from Patriot leaders who had received advance warning and had moved most of the supplies to other locations. The initial encounter at Lexington resulted in eight militiamen killed, and the British suffered only one casualty. The British then proceeded to Concord, where they engaged militiamen at the North Bridge, suffering further casualties, before withdrawing back to Boston under heavy fire, ultimately leading to the siege of Boston.learn more on wikipedia
