Batagaika Crater

The Batagaika crater is a thermokarst depression in the Chersky Range area, located in the Sakha Republic, Russia. It is the largest permafrost crater in the world, measuring approximately one kilometre long and up to 100 metres deep, and is growing in size due to the thawing of permafrost and flooding. The crater has exposed Ice Age fossils and provides insights into 200,000 to 650,000 years of climate data.
