Azov Sea
The Sea of Azov is an inland shelf sea in Eastern Europe, connected to the Black Sea by the Strait of Kerch. It is bounded by Russia on the east and Ukraine on the northwest and southwest. The sea is affected by the inflow of several rivers, including the Don and Kuban, which bring sand, silt, and shells that form numerous bays and spits. The sea is the shallowest in the world, with a depth varying between 0.9 and 14 meters. The Sea of Azov has a low salinity and high biomass, resulting in high fish productivity and abundant plankton. The sea has been known by various names throughout history, including the Maeotis Swamp, Lake Maeotis, and the Cimmerian or Scythican Swamps. The medieval Russians knew it as the Sea of Surozh, and it was known in Ottoman Turkish as the Balük-Denis, or "Fish Sea".learn more on wikipedia
