Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail is a 2,200-mile hiking trail in the Eastern United States, spanning 14 states from Georgia to Maine. It was first proposed in 1921 and completed in 1937, with improvements and changes made since then. The trail is maintained by 31 trail clubs and managed by the National Park Service, United States Forest Service, and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Over three million people hike segments of the trail each year, with around 3,000 attempts to thru-hike the entire trail annually, with about 25% of these attempts succeeding. The trail is considered the world's longest hiking-only trail and is part of the Triple Crown of Hiking in the United States, along with the Continental Divide Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail.learn more on wikipedia
