Amazon River
The Amazon River in South America is the largest river by discharge volume of water in the world, with an average discharge of 215,000-230,000 cubic meters per second. It has a drainage basin of approximately 7,000,000 square kilometers, making it the largest in the world, and it represents 20% of the global riverine discharge into oceans. The Amazon River's source is disputed, with some considering the Apurímac River in Peru and others the Mantaro River, but it ultimately meets the Marañón River and forms the Solimões River above its confluence with the Rio Negro. The river's name is derived from the Amazon warriors, a tribe of women warriors in Greek mythology, and its etymology is also linked to the Tupi word amassona, meaning "boat destroyer". The river's history dates back to the pre-Columbian era, with early human settlements based on low-lying hills or mounds and shell mounds as the earliest evidence of human presence.learn more on wikipedia
