Alpide Belt
The Alpide belt, also known as the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt, is a seismic and orogenic belt that stretches for over 15,000 kilometers along the southern margin of Eurasia, encompassing major mountain ranges such as the Atlas Mountains, the Alps, the Caucasus, and the Himalayas. The belt is a result of the closure of the Tethys Ocean and the collision between the African, Arabian, and Indian plates with the Eurasian plate, which has led to a series of convergent boundaries and the formation of numerous mountain ranges. The concept of the Alpide belt was first introduced by Austrian geologist Eduard Suess in the late 19th century, who proposed that the zone of subsidence, known as Tethys, was a result of the movement of the plates.learn more on wikipedia
