Aegean Sea
The Aegean Sea is an elongated embayment of the Mediterranean Sea covering approximately 215,000 km2, located between the Balkans and Anatolia. It is connected to the Marmara Sea and the Black Sea through the Dardanelles and Bosphorus straits, respectively. The sea reaches a maximum depth of 3,544 meters to the east of Crete and is home to several island groups, including the Dodecanese, Cyclades, and Sporades. The Aegean Sea has been historically significant, with various civilizations inhabiting the area, including Ancient Greece, the Romans, and the Byzantine Empire. The sea is currently bordered by nine administrative regions of Greece and several Turkish provinces, with disputes over sovereignty between Greece and Turkey.learn more on wikipedia
