2006 Lebanon war
The 2006 Lebanon War was a 34-day conflict between Hezbollah and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that started on July 12, 2006, and ended on August 14, 2006, with a UN-brokered ceasefire. The conflict was sparked by a Hezbollah cross-border raid that killed three Israeli soldiers and captured two others, leading to Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire on Lebanese targets. The war resulted in the deaths of 1,191-1,300 Lebanese people and 165 Israelis, and caused significant damage to Lebanese infrastructure and displacement of over 1 million people. A UN resolution was passed to end the hostilities, calling for Hezbollah's disarmament, Israeli withdrawal, and deployment of Lebanese and UN forces in the south. The war ended with a prisoner exchange in 2008, but the Lebanese government and UNIFIL have since stated that they will not disarm Hezbollah.learn more on wikipedia
