1998 World Cup
The 1998 FIFA World Cup was the 16th FIFA World Cup, held in France from June 10 to July 12, 1998. It was the second time France hosted the tournament and the ninth time it was held in Europe. The finals were won by host country France, who beat defending champions Brazil 3–0 in the final, becoming the seventh nation to win a World Cup and the sixth to win it on home soil. France was awarded the 1998 World Cup on July 2, 1992, defeating Morocco by 12 votes to 7, with Switzerland withdrawing its bid due to being unable to meet FIFA's requirements. The qualification process began in March 1996 and concluded in November 1997, with 32 teams competing in the finals.
