Death Penalty in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe officially repeals death penalty law
The death penalty has been effectively abolished in Zimbabwe, although a moratorium on executions has been in place since 2005. The country had not carried out an execution in nearly 20 years. A total of 60 prisoners were on death row at the end of 2023, but they will be spared due to the abolition of the death penalty. The Death Penalty Abolition Act was approved by President Emmerson Mnangagwa this week after passing through Parliament.
