World record marathon runner Kelvin Kiptum dies in Kenya car crash at 24

Kelvin Kiptum, a 24-year-old Kenyan marathon runner, and his coach, Gervais Hakizimana from Rwanda, died in a car accident on the Eldoret-Kaptagat road in western Kenya on February 11, 2023. The incident occurred late at night, around 11 pm (2000 GMT). According to various reports, there were three occupants in the vehicle, and two of them, Kiptum and Hakizimana, died on the spot. A third person, believed to be a woman, was taken to the hospital with injuries.
