World Leaders Launch Programme to Boost Vaccine Production in Africa

The African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator is a newly announced initiative aimed at boosting local vaccine manufacturing in Africa. The project, launched by French President Emmanuel Macron and several African leaders, aims to provide financial incentives to offset start-up costs for vaccine manufacturers on the continent. Germany has committed $318 million to the scheme, with Macron stating that it will be an essential step towards creating a genuine African vaccine market. Currently, Africa imports 99% of its vaccines at high cost, highlighting the need for local production.
