Woman Rescued After 10 Years of Captivity Following Chibok Kidnapping

Lydia Simon, a woman believed to be in her twenties, was rescued by Nigerian troops in the Gwoza council area of Borno state. The location of her rescue is significant as it is where Boko Haram had seized 276 schoolgirls in April 2014. Ten years after this mass kidnapping, about 82 girls are still missing. Chibok and Ngoshe, the areas where the incident occurred, are in Borno state, which is the birthplace of a 15-year old insurgency. The Islamist group Boko Haram is responsible for both the rescue of Lydia Simon and the kidnapping of the schoolgirls.
