Mpox Pandemic
WHO considers declaring international emergency over Mpox outbreak
The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the potential public health emergency of international concern due to the spread of monkeypox. The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported over 22,000 suspected cases since the start of 2023, with a high proportion of cases in children under 15 years old. The current outbreak is larger and more widespread than any previous outbreak in the country. Meanwhile, Kenya and several other African countries have also seen a rapid spread of the virus.
