Vice President of Malawi Killed Along with Nine Others in Plane Crash
Malawian Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima died in a plane crash along with nine others. The incident occurred when the military aircraft carrying Chilima failed to land at Mzuzu International Airport due to bad weather, and subsequently went missing. Air traffic controllers had instructed the pilot not to attempt a landing at the airport. The wreckage of the plane was later found on a hillside in the Chikangawa forest, with all 10 people on board killed instantly. President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed the tragic incident, stating that there were no survivors. Chilima, who was 51 years old, had served as Vice President for 10 years and was known for his workaholic nature. He was also embroiled in corruption allegations during his tenure. Prior to becoming Vice President, he worked as managing director of Airtel Malawi, the country's leading telecommunications firm.
