United States Pledges $300 Million for Multinational Security Force Deployment in Haiti

The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has announced an increase in US funding for a multinational force mission to Haiti. Blinken approved an additional US$100 million for the deployment and also pledged US$33 million in humanitarian aid. The Caribbean Community (Caricom) leaders and Haitian stakeholders have agreed on a joint proposal for this mission. Kenya's Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki reported that Kenyan troops are in the "pre-deployment" stage for the mission, but it remains unclear when the deployment will occur. The United Nations Security Council has also called for a multinational security force to be deployed in Haiti due to concerns over the security and humanitarian situation. Kenya's UN delegation briefed the council on ongoing planning efforts for the mission.
