Unequal Post-Pandemic Recovery: UN Report Highlights Struggles of Poorest Countries
The UN Development Program (UNDP) has released reports indicating that development in half of the world's poorest countries has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels. According to the UNDP, the human development trajectory of much of the world has been negatively impacted by the pandemic, with dozens of poor nations yet to regain their previous overall well-being levels. The UNDP also noted that the world is experiencing unequal and incomplete development, with some countries making significant progress while others are falling behind. Despite some poor countries bouncing back from the Covid-19 pandemic, the poorest among them are not, and a significant number are seeing conditions deteriorate. The Human Development Index (HDI) is projected to reach record highs in 2024, but this progress is not evenly distributed.
