Ukraine's "20 Days in Mariupol" Wins Oscar for Best Documentary

Mstyslav Chernov, Evgeniy Maloletka, Vasilisa Stepanenko, and Lori Hinnant were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for their work on the documentary "20 days in Mariupol." Chernov transformed his video footage from the invasion of Mariupol in early 2022 into a film of the same name. The film received widespread acclaim after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023 and was considered a strong contender for awards. Ukrainian officials have praised the documentary as the country's first Oscar-winning film, highlighting its portrayal of Russia's crimes during the attack on Mariupol.
