Ukraine Claims to Have Foiled Russian Plot to Assassinate Zelensky
Ukrainian authorities have announced that they have foiled a Russian plot to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky, with two colonels in the State Guard of Ukraine detained on suspicion of enacting the plan. According to reports, the colonels were recruited by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and received financial compensation for their services.
The plot allegedly involved using missiles and drones to strike at senior figures in Kyiv, with one of the suspects receiving two drones and ammunition from the Russian state security service. Ukrainian counter-intelligence investigators claim that the plan was drawn up by Russia ahead of Vladimir Putin's inauguration for a fifth term on Tuesday.
