Ugandan court convicts LRA rebel commander Dominic Ongwen of crimes against humanity
Thomas Kwoyelo was found guilty of 44 out of 78 charges related to crimes committed during the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebellion in northern Uganda. The charges included murder, rape, torture, pillaging, abduction, and destruction of settlements. Kwoyelo denied all charges, but was convicted by the lead judge, Michael Elubu. Three counts of murder were dismissed, and 31 alternate offences were also dismissed. This was the first atrocity case to be tried under a special division of the High Court.
