Ugandan Olympic Athlete Seriously Injured in Attack by Boyfriend

Rebecca Cheptegei, a 33-year-old distance runner, was attacked and set on fire by her boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, at her home in Trans Nzoia County. The incident occurred during a disagreement, with Ndiema pouring petrol on Cheptegei and setting her ablaze. Cheptegei sustained severe burns, with reports indicating that she received treatment for burns on 75-80% of her body. The couple was reportedly heard quarrelling outside their house before the incident. Cheptegei's condition is critical, and she is receiving treatment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
