UnitedHealthcare CEO Assassination
US justice department seeks death penalty for Luigi Mangione
Luigi Mangione, 26, is accused of murdering the chief executive of UnitedHealthcare. He has entered a plea of not guilty on federal charges of murder with a firearm and stalking, as well as New York state charges of murder as an act of terrorism and weapons offenses. Mangione faces a possible life sentence without parole if convicted on the state charges. However, US Attorney General Pam Bondi has directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in the case. This decision follows President Donald Trump's campaign vow to resume federal executions.
