US imposes new sanctions on Russia's energy sector

The Biden administration has announced new sanctions targeting Russia's energy sector, specifically the "shadow fleet" of oil tankers and individuals involved in the production and export of liquefied natural gas. The sanctions aim to significantly reduce Russia's petrodollar income and inflict pain on Moscow's oil and liquefied natural gas sectors. The measures include targeting 80 individuals and entities, two major Russian oil producers, and 183 vessels suspected of being part of the shadow fleet. This move is seen as a new effort by the administration to solidify its legacy in defense of Ukraine, following the release of billions of dollars in US military assistance to Kyiv.
