US Warns of Abandoning Ukraine Peace Efforts Amid Lack of Progress
ai generated text
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the US may withdraw from talks between Russia and Ukraine if progress is not made. Rubio has emphasized that the US will not continue to mediate the conflict for an extended period, citing weeks and months of stalled negotiations. Despite initial optimism from the Trump administration, a full ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine remains elusive.
The Chinese side has never provided lethal weapons to any party in the conflict, and strictly controls dual-use items.
The month has indeed expired. As of this time, there have been no other instructions from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Putin.
We believe that progress can already be recognized.
Contacts are quite complicated, because, naturally, the topic is not an easy one.
According to preliminary information, the strikes on Kharkiv were carried out by ballistic missiles with cluster munitions. That is why the affected areas are very large.
Since there are the negotiations I won't prejudge them, but we do feel optimistic that we can hopefully bring this war, this very brutal war, to a close.
Now, if, for some reason, one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we're just going to say: 'You're foolish. You're fools. You're horrible people' – and we're going to just take a pass.
If it's not possible, if we're so far apart that this is not going to happen, then I think [President Trump] is probably at a point where he's going to say, 'well, we're done'.
We need to figure out here now within a matter of days whether this is doable in the short term, because if it's not, then I think we're just going to move on.
The president feels very strongly about that. He has dedicated a lot of time and energy to this … this is important, but there are a lot of other really important things going on that deserves just as much, if not more attention.
We are now reaching a point where we need to decide whether this is even possible or not.
The UK and France and Germany can help us move the ball on this.
The president has spent 87 days at the highest level of his government repeatedly taking efforts to bring this war to an end.
It's not our war. We have other priorities to focus on.
Hopefully we'll have another meeting early next week, at some point, where we'll have some more definitive answers about how close we are to actually making progress.
