US Warns Israel to Improve Aid to Gaza Amid Humanitarian Crisis
The US government has expressed "deep concern" over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, citing a significant decrease in aid deliveries, with a reported 50% drop in assistance. The US has given Israel 30 days to improve access to humanitarian aid in Gaza, with nearly 90% of humanitarian movements being denied or impeded by Israel last month. The US has urged Israel to take urgent steps to address the situation, while Israel has responded by saying that arms transfers could be halted if the humanitarian situation does not improve. The Israeli military has expanded attacks on northern Gaza, drawing accusations that the goal is to starve Hamas members into surrendering. The United Nations has also raised concerns, stating that the Israeli military has "trapped" tens of thousands of Gazans and that aid deliveries to the area have been severely hindered.
The Israeli military appears to be cutting off North Gaza completely from the rest of the Gaza Strip.
Our colleagues risk their lives to save others and too often come under fire. Throughout this conflict, we have demanded respect for international humanitarian and human rights law. There must be accountability.
We have not received a plan like that.
We are making sure we're getting civilians out of harm's way while we operate against those terror cells in Jabalia.
This is genocide. They must be stopped -- and they must be stopped now.
Given the abject conditions and intolerable suffering in north Gaza, the fact that humanitarian access is nearly nonexistent is unconscionable.
We will be watching to see that Israel's actions on the ground match this statement.
We all saw that video, and all know that it's horrifying to see people burned to death. We have made clear our serious concerns about the matter directly with the government of Israel.
We very much want to see changes not wait for 30 days but happen immediately.
