US Patient Dies Two Months After Genetically Modified Pig Kidney Transplant

Richard Slayman, a 62-year-old man, was the first person to receive a genetically modified pig kidney transplant. The surgery took place in March at Massachusetts General Hospital. According to surgeons, they believed the pig kidney would last for at least two years. Unfortunately, Slayman passed away nearly two months after the transplant, with no cause of death reported by his family. The transplant team expressed their condolences and stated that they had no indication that his death was related to the transplant.
