Russian Influence in the US
US Officials Say Russian Influence Actors Created Fake Video Depicting Voter Fraud in Georgia
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the FBI, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have jointly warned that Russia-linked disinformation operations are manufacturing videos and creating fake articles to undermine the legitimacy of the election and instill fear in voters.
US intelligence officials have confirmed that a video purporting to show voter fraud in Georgia is fake. According to the officials, the video was created by "Russian influence actors" in an attempt to undermine faith in the integrity of the presidential election. This is not an isolated incident, as a similar video appeared last week, also attributed to Russian actors.
The video, which appeared on X, is a 20-second clip showing two men in a car claiming to be Haitian. One of the men allegedly obtained US citizenship within six months of arriving in the country. US intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia is behind another fabricated video, which falsely claims that Haitians illegally voted in Georgia. A third video, which was posted on social media, also falsely claimed that ballots in Pennsylvania were being destroyed.
