US Judge Robert McBurney overturns Georgia's six-week abortion ban

A Fulton County superior court judge has ruled that Georgia's six-week abortion ban is unconstitutional, effectively allowing abortions to be performed later in pregnancy. The ban, which was passed in 2019 and took effect in 2022, prohibited abortions once fetal cardiac activity was detected. This decision overturns the 2022 ban and allows abortions to be performed up until about 22 weeks of pregnancy. The ruling is significant as it comes after the overturning of Roe v Wade, which previously blocked the ban.
