US Announces $300 Million Emergency Aid Package for Ukraine

The U.S. President Joe Biden announced an emergency $300 million military aid package for Ukraine on March 12, 2023. This comes after the Biden administration had run out of funding from Congress to supply Kyiv's forces with armaments and was overdrawn by $10 billion. The Pentagon described this as a "one-time shot" to provide urgent aid as Ukraine is running low on munitions. The package includes air defense interceptors, artillery rounds, and armor systems, which will be funded by cost savings from contracts brokered to replace previous weapons. Two officials also mentioned that the package includes an older version of the Army's longer-range missile systems known as ATACMS.
