UN warns: New heat records likely for 'planet on brink' in 2024
According to reports from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations, 2023 was identified as the hottest year on record. The WMO stated that not only was 2023 the warmest year ever recorded, but it also marked the end of the warmest decade on record. Furthermore, there is a high probability that 2024 will surpass the heat records set in 2023, as mentioned by Omar Baddour, the UN climate monitoring chief.
