UN rights chief worried by "fundamental shift" in US direction under Trump

Volker Turk, the United Nations human rights chief, has expressed concern about a "fundamental shift in direction" in the United States, particularly in regards to policies related to human rights. He has specifically criticized the new administration for labeling policies intended to protect people from discrimination as discriminatory, and for rolling back progress on gender equality. Turk has also warned that divisive rhetoric is being used to distort, deceive, and polarize the public, and has voiced his strongest rebuke to date of the "unchecked power" of unelected tech oligarchs.
