UN Adds Israel to List of Militaries Violating Children's Rights in Armed Conflict

The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has decided to include Israel, Hamas, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in an upcoming report to the UN Security Council, citing violations against children in armed conflict. The report covers six violations: killing and maiming, sexual violence, abduction, recruitment, and use of children. According to a diplomatic source, Israel's military will be added to the list of offenders who failed to protect children last year, which has been met with outrage from Israeli officials. Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, received official notification of Guterres' decision and responded by calling it "outrageous and wrong". Erdan also berated a head of Antonio Guterres' office in a video sent to news organizations. Foreign Minister Israel Katz has stated that the decision will have consequences for relations with the UN.
