UAE sentences 43 to life in prison over terror links

A group of Emirati lawyers, academics, and activists were recently tried in national security trials. The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal convicted the defendants of creating a terrorist organization, with over 80 human rights defenders and political dissidents being put on trial. According to reports, 84 defendants appeared before the court, with ten additional defendants receiving sentences ranging from 10-15 years in prison. One person was acquitted, while 24 cases were deemed inadmissible. Notably, more than 80 lawyers and activists had expected to be released from prison, but instead, they were all prosecuted again, leaving their families stunned.
