Typhoon Gaemi causes oil spill and crew casualties after sinking freighter off Taiwan and Philippines

Typhoon Gaemi has caused significant damage and disruption in Taiwan and the Philippines. In Taiwan, the storm made landfall on Wednesday with strong winds of up to 227 kph, resulting in the deaths of two people, widespread power outages affecting 500,000 households, and the closure of offices, schools, and financial markets for a second day. In the Philippines, the typhoon capsized an oil tanker carrying 1.5 million litres of industrial fuel, which is feared to be sinking and potentially causing a large spill that could reach the shore of Manila.
