Typhoon Ampil forces evacuations in eastern Japan with thousands ordered to leave their homes

Typhoon Ampil is a powerful storm located south of Tokyo, generating gusts of up to 216 kph as it moves north. The storm is forecasted to pass northeastward along the Honshu coast, near Tokyo, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and a risk of landslides. Authorities have warned of violent winds, high waves, and potential flooding. As of Friday, the storm had already caused flooding and fallen trees in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo. The storm is currently equivalent in strength to a Category 4 hurricane and is expected to intensify further in the next 12 hours, potentially reaching peak intensity as it passes by Japan.
