Tunisia Constitutional Reform
Tunisian Presidential Election Set for October 6
Tunisian President Kais Saied has been ruling by decree since taking full control of the country in 2021. He had a new constitution approved by referendum in 2022, establishing a presidential system. The power grab led to a political crisis that has negatively impacted the economy. Despite this, Saied has called for presidential elections on October 6, with many expecting him to run for re-election after completing his first five-year term in 2019. However, the National Salvation Front has announced it will not participate in the election.
