Trump says China tariff cuts depend on Beijing's actions, seeks "fair deal"

The United States and China are engaged in a trade war, with each side enduring economic hardship in an attempt to pressure the other into concessions. President Trump has stated that his country will have a "fair deal" with China, but the pace of tariff reductions depends on China's willingness to make concessions.
I very much appreciate Secretary Bessent's reiteration of the US commitment to the Fund and to its role.

I cannot stress this strongly enough: without certainty, businesses do not invest, households prefer to save rather than to spend, and this further weakens prospects for already weakened growth.
It doesn't matter who 'they' is. We may reveal it later, but they had meetings this morning, and we've been meeting with China.
It depends on China how soon the tariffs can come down.
It's hard to see why countries would want to undermine their own business interests to try and reduce America's trade deficit with China.
China's retaliatory tariffs will hit US farmers hard. Some may go out of business.
On this point, I think Trump has been short-sighted and may be forced to blink first on lowering tariffs with China.
In the U.S., you have so many consumer items … where there is no ready replacement. Are people willing and able to pay double … for shoes for their kids?
Tolerance for the pain that's going to be caused is greater in China than it is in the United States.
