Trump nominee Hegseth advances in Senate test vote despite some Republican opposition
The US Senate has voted to advance the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, with 51 Republican votes in favor and 49 against. Hegseth, a former Fox News host and military veteran, has faced allegations of sexual assault, excessive alcohol use, and financial mismanagement. Despite these allegations, all but two Republican senators, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, voted to advance his nomination. A vote on his confirmation is expected later this week.
