Trump Names Brendan Carr as Permanent Chairman of Federal Communications Commission
Brendan Carr is set to become the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), a position he is expected to hold until 2029. Carr, a 45-year-old Republican, has been a member of the commission since his nomination by Donald Trump in 2017. He has previously served as the FCC's general counsel and is known for his criticism of the commission's decision not to finalize $900 million in broadband subsidies. As chairman, Carr is expected to prioritize free speech and combat what he sees as a "censorship cartel" among major tech platforms. Trump has praised Carr as a "warrior for Free Speech" and has suggested that he will bring the FCC under tighter White House control. Carr has been endorsed by Elon Musk, who has backed his criticism of big tech and the regulatory environment that he believes stifles innovation and job creation. As chairman, Carr is expected to work to roll back what he sees as excessive regulation and promote the interests of the tech industry.
We must dismantle the censorship cartel and restore free speech rights for everyday Americans.
Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft & others have played central roles in the censorship cartel.
In my view, it amounted to nothing more than regulatory lawfare against one of the left's top targets: Mr. Musk.
He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America's Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FCC delivers for rural America.
Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans' Freedoms, and held back our Economy.
His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman.
That's why Democrats need to defend Section 230, which protects content moderation and keeps the Internet from becoming a cesspool.
When people tell you what they plan to do, you should believe them. Brendan Carr has clearly stated that he plans to attack Section 230 and force online platforms to carry sludge.
