Tornado strikes Guangzhou, killing at least five people and injuring dozens

A tornado struck the southern Chinese economic hub of Guangzhou, killing five people and damaging scores of factory buildings. The city, located approximately 80 miles from Hong Kong, is the capital of Guangdong province. According to official reports, the tornado occurred around 3 p.m. in the Baiyun district and caused significant damage to industrial areas, with 141 factory buildings affected. Hailstones with diameters of up to 2 inches also fell in parts of the city. Fortunately, no residential houses collapsed, and authorities reported that 33 people were injured.
