The parliament of Tonga has elected 'Aisake Eke as its new prime minister, following the resignation of former prime minister Siaosi Sovaleni Hu'akavameiliku. The election was by secret ballot, with Eke securing 16 votes to his opponent Viliami Latu's 8. This marks a change in leadership in the country, which will now be led by Eke for less than a year before the next election in November 2025.
